The Grasspave2 structure is ready for the sand

The sand is placed inside the Grasspave2 rings and ready to be spread.

Summary: We did the porous paving because our yard is flat as a pancake, and our basement has had some water issues (we flooded a bit during the hurricane).  We were concerned that if we used standard paving to get a turnaround in the backyard, the water would go in the basement.  And, we didn’t want to look out our den window at a lot of asphalt.

Summary: Grasspave2 was specified in the design by the City of Hamilton and installed by CRL Campbell. Designed to withstand heavy vehicle loading and permit rainwater percolation, Grasspave2 also provides a greener appearance compared to impermeable surfaces, such as asphalt and concrete.

Prior to installing the rolls of Grasspave2, CRL Campbell prepared the subgrade, followed by placing and compacting the road base course with granular ‘A’ material. Hydrogrow, a mixture of polymer and fertilizer supplied with Grasspave2, was applied over the road base. Rolls of Grasspave2, which are 2m x 20m in length, were unrolled with the side hole fasteners aligned and connected with the side pegs of adjacent rolls. The cells were then filled with clean sharp concrete sand using rakes followed by hydroseeding. A total of 2,350sqm of Grasspave2 was installed. Within a few days, the root system began to establish itself with the grid. It is recommended that there is no traffic loading on the grass until approximately a couple of mowings after installation.

The grass paver parking lot is now ready for seeding.

Manufactured from 100% recycled flexible HDPE resin with UV inhibitors, Grasspave2 withstands repeated freeze-thaw cycles and continuous subzero temperatures without cracking. Additionally, HDPE can resist aggressive chemicals such as road salts, motor oils and fuels. Combined with a standard compacted road base material and sand that fill the cells, Grasspave2 can support 39,273 KPa (5,700psi) of loading.

Summary: The Creek along this estate is considered a sensitive area requiring a porous surface road. Joe Gayle & Associates (designer) wanted a natural look; Mike Hill at NuStone Technology (installer) wanted tough, elegant and natural. NuStone tried a sample area of Gravelpave2 abutting the bridge crossing the creed. The test lasted a month with the construction traffic traversing the Gravelpave2 the whole time before the owner said he liked it.  Hill knew it would provide the natural elegant look with the stone edging and proved exceptionally durable. He installed about 7500 sf of it for the drive and turn around.

Summary: From Growing Hope Center: “We’ll be installing products called Gravelpave2 and Grasspave2– both pervious pavers that are a green solution to walkways, driveways, and even parking lots. Gravelpave2 is even ADA accessible. And, even more interesting is what we’re filling with– recycled, crushed, tumbled (so not sharp) blue & green bottle glass! We’ll be creating a sparking patio, and needs all hands on deck to help us install the pavel rolls, mix the 12,000 pounds of glass (currently in bags by color– we’ll create a mix), and spread it out.”
